George Thomas

George brings a truly global perspective to his practice of law, gained both from his personal history and professional experience. He is a dual UK/US national with family roots in India and has been a proud Houstonian for almost 40 years.  He is also a subject matter expert in legal compliance and ethics.

Leveraging knowledge gained from over a decade of corporate generalist roles, George’s approach to compliance is business-savvy and practical.  As a compliance leader at 4 different public companies, George has in-country experience in over 20 nations (including Brazil, Germany, the UAE, India, China and Japan). He also has expertise in conducting risk assessments and acting on their results, building, strengthening, and monitoring compliance programs, anti-trust,  investigations, and conducting engaging, effective compliance training across cultures and organizations.

Prior to his compliance roles, George was general counsel for a Houston-based software company where he helped take the company public.  He has also served as a commercial and contracts counsel at a Fortune 500 company. This background enables George to work collaboratively with the business and formulate compliance strategies that both meet compliance muster and are achievable and sustainable.

George received a JD from the Washington College of Law,  The American University in Washington, DC.; an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management; and his B.A. from Rice University.  He regularly speaks at compliance events to share his unique perspectives to the discipline . Until recently, he also served as President for Association of Corporate Counsel, Houston and helped the organization cross the thousand-member threshold.
